the movie quotes game

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 27, 2008, 4:21 PM
the movie quotes game (taken from :iconhalocin: )

1. Pick 20 of your favourite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions

So... here it goes:

1-"You've got an overdeveloped sense of vengeance. It's going to get you into trouble someday"
2- "You like me because I'm a scoundrel. There aren't enough scoundrels in your life. "
3- "Are you calling me on the cellular phone? I don't know you. Who is this? Don't come here, I'm hanging up the phone! Prank caller, prank caller!"
4- "If I had met you forty years ago, you would have been my number one lady."
5- "I suddenly had this feeling that everything was connected. It's like I could see the whole thing, one long chain of events that stretched all the way back before Larkhill. I felt like I could see everything that happened, and everything that is going to happen. It was like a perfect pattern, laid out in front of me. And I realized we're all part of it, and all trapped by it."
6- "Good shit, huh? It's good for two things: degreasing engines and killing brain cells. "
7- "My warrior woman. My Valkyrie. You'll always be mine, always and never."
8- "Why is it, whenever we meet, I end up bleeding?"
9- "No. I cannot just step aside and let you escape. "
10- "How seldom it is one meets a fellow spirit. "
11- "You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig. "
12- "Components. American components, Russian Components, ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!"
13- "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room. "
14- "He was their sweet little dream. He had little hands, little legs, little feet. Little lungs. And in 2008, along came the flu pandemic. And then, by chance, he was gone. You see, Theo's faith lost out to chance. So, why bother if life's going to make its own choices?"
15- "Boy, it sure would be nice if we had some grenades, don't you think? "

(So I only did 15... deal with it.)

it doesn't seem real...

it doesn't seem real...

Wow.... Just... wow.

So I got the scholarship to SMU I was hoping for. Full ride + a semester abroad + room and board + preferential treatment with class selection + automatic invitation/acceptance into the honors program + get to live in a special dorm + get to meet some awesome people when they come to speak at SMU and have dinner with them + ...well, you get the idea.

Of the thousands of applicants, I was one of the 400 that qualified. Of the 400 that qualified, I was one of the 60 that were nominated to be finalists. Of the 60, I am now one of the 35 or so that get to be presidential scholars.

I feel so proud... and so relieved. No more worries about college costs.

But I think the best part was telling Pepa about it. His tears really said more than any words could, were he able to speak. Just knowing that he's so happy, and that what I did made him so proud of me...

Wow... Just... wow.

Teal Ribbon Campaign

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 4, 2007, 9:10 PM
Teal Ribbon Campaign

My mom was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer a few months more than a year ago. She found out she had it in the later stages, and almost immediately had to undergo a huge surgery in order to save her life. Besides her reproductive organs, they took her spleen, part of her small intestine, part of her colon... Then she had to go through chemo, and cancer took her hair, too. And her energy. But it hasn't taken her life, and I can never express enough how thankful I am for that.

September is the official month for Ovarian Cancer Awareness, and for something that is the 5th leading cancer death among women in the US, it is sadly overlooked. I am looking to change that, and raise the awareness through my art. After all, how many people know how common it is? How many people know its official color without looking it up? (It's teal.)

So I've started this series of Deviations, this "Teal Ribbon Campaign" in hopes of raising awareness, even if it's just by letting one more person know.

Ovarian Cancer is the 5th leading cause of cancer death among women in the US.
Ovarian Cancer occurs in about 1 in 57 women.
More than 16,000 women will die this year from Ovarian Cancer. Another 25,000 will be diagnosed.
If Ovarian Cancer is caught early, before it spreads out of the ovaries, 90% of the women infected will survive 5 years.
When diagnosed after the Ovarian Cancer has spread, the chance of 5-year survival drops to less than 25%.
Only 24% of Ovarian Cancer is caught early.
There is no reliable screening test for the early detection of Ovarian Cancer.
WHY?

I'm encouraging everyone who reads this to, at least, put one of the stamps in their journals linking back to the news article. If anyone feels like creating art related to the topic, feel free to do that, too. Just let me know.
